When you work with the “Map of antimicrobial resistance of Russia ”, please, use a prompting “How to…?” in the right part of the page.

What is the structure of the “Map of antimicrobial resistance of Russia ”?

The project includes two main parts:

1.     “Map”;

2.     “Advanced search”.

How to use “Map”?

You can see a map of Russia in the central part of the page. To obtain data on resistance, please, choose on the top of the page nosocomial or community-acquired infections, then a pathogen, an antimicrobial agent and a year (fig. 1).

Figure 1.

Then a resistance of the pathogen to the agent in different regions of Russia will be reflected on the map. Please, take into account that data obtained in a hospital are applied to the whole region and all this is very relative. Indeed, these data reflect a resistance in the hospital at the time of collection of strains. You can choose a painted region to obtain more detailed information.

To obtain data on resistance you can also choose a city in the left part of the page (fig. 2). Then you should choose a pathogen and an antimicrobial agent. You can select data for certain period of time choosing a year in the right part of the page (fir. 3).

How to turn to “Advanced search”?

Please, push the “Advanced search” button on the top of the page (fig. 4).

Figure 4.

How to use “Advanced search”?

By means of “Advanced search” you can select necessary data. First of all you should choose a category to start a search (agent, pathogen or antimicrobial agent). Then you should choose remaining parameters of search. You can change your choice by means of link “Previous”. Tables of data will appear as a result. You can select data for certain period of time choosing a year in the right part of the page (fir. 3).

You can turn to “Map” by means of link “Map” in the left part of the page.

How “Summarized data on the city” are calculated?

Summarized data on the city are displayed as a first table. Such a table appears if information about resistance in the city is obtained from more than one institution of the city. Overall amount of strains obtained from all institutions, proportion of resistant, intermediate and susceptible strains are calculated.

How to interpret tables?

Table of data includes fields: city, hospital, period, type of infection, age, method/standard, reference, pathogen, antimicrobial agent and susceptibility results.

The study center is indicated if first field.

The field “Hospital” appears if table concerns nosocomial infection. Ciphered information about a hospital where strains were collected is displayed.

The “Period” field displays time when tested strains were collected.

Type of infection is displayed in a corresponding field. In the case of nosocomial infection the field contains word “nosocomial”. If it is not specified the table concerns community-acquired infection.

The age group of patients is specified in the “Age” field.

Methods and standards used for testing are described in a corresponding field. “Map of antimicrobial resistance of Russia ” includes data obtained according to National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS).

“Map of antimicrobial resistance of Russia ” includes published data and reference is pointed out in the field “Reference”.

Microorganism and number of strains (n) are specified in the field Pathogen”.

Results are displayed as a proportion of strains (to overall number of tested strains) which are susceptible (S), intermediate (I) and resistant (R) to each antimicrobial agent. If number of strains is less than 25 S, I and R values are also represented in per cent but they may differ from real susceptibility/resistance rates.
