General Information
Institute of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IAC), Department of Clinical Pharmacology of the Smolensk State Medical Academy and All-Russia Drug Information Network (ARDIN) Centers under support of The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) plan to develop first remote education program in the field of antimicrobial chemotherapy.
The main objective of the project is to improve qualification of Russian health care professionals in the area of antimicrobial chemotherapy using advanced informational technologies.
Our start-up plan is to realize the following educational programs:
- Evidence-based antimicrobial chemotherapy in therapeutic practice.
- Evidence-based antimicrobial chemotherapy in surgery practice.
- Evidence-based antimicrobial chemotherapy in pediatric practice.
Taking into account that Russian medical organizations are poorly equipped with computers linked to the Internet there will be several educational modes of action depending on Internet availability.
- Maximal Internet employment for students with opportunity of full-value work in the net;
- Maximal e-mail employment for students with no Internet available but with e-mail available;
- Minimal Internet and e-mail for listeners with no Internet and e-mail available;
- In case of no Internet and e-mail availability information will be sent on diskettes or as a hard copy.
The supporting web-site of remote education will be developed on the basis of site «Antibiotics and antimicrobial chemotherapy» (www.antibiotic.ru) and will include following sections
Organizing section
- introduction;
- objectives;
- brief summary of topics;
- order of interaction with teacher.
Educational section
- Modules and tests for self-examination on different topics.
Control section
- knowledge control;
- data base with distant access;
- computer educational system - «virtual patient».
On- remote educational course will be consist of several parts:
- subject;
- actuality;
- links with other fields of knowledge on speciality;
- program of course;
- rules for self-instruction;
- list of educational materials with all essential references;
- references;
- terms dictionary;
- list of abbreviations;
- tests, questions, tasks with answers;
- assignments for homework;
- final test;
- information about the authors of the course.
Education should be maximal sufficient
- student will have no need to attend lectures;
- In the end of course student is supposed to acquire necessary minimum of knowledge which can be checked distantly.
At the end of course health care professionals who successfully pass the final exam will obtain the certificate of official design.
